DYTC and MK Off Road turn up the heat.

If you go down to the wood's today.

D.Y.T.C / MK Off Road Round 5
OSET Cup West Midlands/West Midlands Youth Trials Champs
17.7.22 – Howard’s Wood

Huge thankyou to our observers. Claire Pimley, Bev Cumberland, Sarah Cumberland, Paul Cumberland, Ray Pekala & Kelly Reynolds.

Also to our sponsors MK Off Road, Woodrobes, Central Scanning & of course OSET Bikes.

And of course, Simon the landowner at Howard’s Wood, for letting us use his nice shaded piece of land!

We had a smaller entry for this one, the temperature forecast to push almost 40 degrees at some points during the week. But the 35 riders who came were rewarded with a surprisingly cool & fully shaded woodland venue.

The beginner white route was close at the top. Seth Jenkin was missing today due to chicken pox so it was left to Tommy Sturgess and Emily Thompson to battle it out. Tommy made no mistake and cleaned the trial to take his first win with us, and second after a win with our friends at North Berks Motorcycle Club a few days previous. Emily was unlucky with just 3 dropped on section 2. These two cool kids are now just one point apart going into the final round, with Emily edging it by a single championship point.

DYTC regular Huw Edmunds was 3rd place with Edward Rowe in 4th on Harper Oliver’s old 16.0R. James Weller competed in his first ever trial and had some great rides. James didn’t quite manage to finish but had a fun day out on his bike.

It was nice to get our first entry on the petrol class of the white route, and amazing to get yet another girl ride with us. Lia Jones had some great rides onboard her TY80. Hopefully Lia has the trial bug and will be joining us again soon!

Emily Thompson

Yellow route OSET cup was familiar at the top again. Birthday girl Daisy Brookes took the win and like the white route, just edges Kasia Pekala-Dayment by a single point. The final round is home turf for Kasia so I’m sure she will push for the win there. Lewis Davis had a great result in 3rd; I believe his best to date. Krystian Pekala-Dayment made sure there were two from the family in the top 4. Central Scanning’s Amelie Godfrey was back again and rode well enough for a 5th. Harry Brookes is a superstar in the making! Harry was just a point behind Amelie and it won’t be long before he’s pushing his sister for the win. A quick mention for Braeden Bryson-Podesta, who is really pushing himself on the yellow route onboard his little OSET 16.0R. Braeden is finding some sections tough but he may have an advantage next year over the white route riders moving up. Keep going Braeden and well done for digging deep!

Mark Weller was the sole OSET 24 adult rider on the yellows again. Mark having fun in the sun with his son, and lowering his score each lap. Mark could do with some competition if anyone fancies digging their 24.0’s out!

On the petrol bikes, Jake Stokes took the win, with Flynn Meredith not quite managing to finish. Flynn is new to the tricky sport of trials and is also battling a beta evo 250 around the yellow route. Hopefully Flynn keeps practicing and will join us again soon. Jake Stokes has come on a bundle since we first met at round 2 and is starting to really look comfortable on his Gas Gas 80.

Huw Oliver Edmunds

The blue route is getting very tight on the championship scoreboard. The blue route is the hardest to setup, as the variety of riders is huge. It’s the one that worries me the most and takes the longest time to get right. This time, it was a little easier than anticipated but with the threat of super high temperatures and the loose nature of the ground, I think everyone had a good day. Oliver Bird got the win here with just 5 dropped to blow the championship race wide open. Cornwall’s George Turner was 2nd on 8, and Woodrobes Josh Wood was 3rd and is still in with a chance of championship glory. Little Harvey Reynolds had his lowest score to date on the blue route and brings home 4th place points.

On the petrol’s, our son Jack Rich looked to find life a little too easy! While Jack insists it was a tough trial and he had to work hard, with some luck in some sections, he managed to clean the whole trial. Jack is new to a petrol bike and he’s made progress a little quicker than we thought. Jack is ready to move up to red next year, but it gives us a dilemma as he will need minding on some of the sections. Jacks buddy Max Hastings would have matched Jack’s clean trial if it were not for a couple of dabs on section 4. On paper, Hayden Cope was a bit behind these two with his score, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Hayden rode the best we have ever seen him and is really starting to get to grips with his Beta 80 now after also recently moving from an OSET.

Red route, OSET cup had Alfie Shaw back and also a new rider to us in Billy Guilford. Billy is a regular winner at the New Forest OSET cup so chose the red route this time and had a tough morning. Like Hayden Cope, the score doesn’t tell the whole story as Billy improved section after section, and started to clean some of them as the day went on. Sam Lefevre took the win and also managed to beat Kayleigh and the rest of the riders on the red route petrol’s. Sam impressed as always and he now heads to rounds 1 & 2 of the British championships hosted by the Berko club this coming weekend. Alfie Shaw was second on his little OSET 20. Alfie managed to beat some of the bigger kids on 125’s on some sections. Just 11 points back was Samuel Millmore, again joining us from Cornwall for which we are super grateful.

On the petrol bikes, Kayleigh Rich took the win after not really feeling it much. Kayleigh had a lot of slack dabs, but managed an impressive score of 24. One silly 5 on section 3 missing a set of flags a poor excuse for someone who’s (supposed) to help setup on Saturdays! Kayleigh now leads the championship going into the final round. Its super close with these 4 though as Zach Reynolds was back and finished a clear 2nd place. Zach nursing a sore wrist and would have pushed Kayleigh more on another day I’m sure. Marcus Hastings bagged himself an impressive 3rd. Marcus was the standout rider on section 2 & largely on section 7. Hayden Pimley was having serious front brake trouble with cost him a lot of points. Hayden worked hard and kept going and hopefully enjoyed his day out.

Apologies I couldn’t mention everyone. But each and every child who rode was a superstar and Caz and I hope you all had a great day out.

Another little mention for the girls – we had 7 young ladies riding with us! Also, the girls lead 5 of our 10 classes! With the top two girls also in the yellow OSET cup. Great to see the girls getting involved with the sport too.

Our tour moves to it’s final round at Breakheart Quarry, Dursley on Sunday September 11th 2022, where all is at stake in every class to find our winners & top 3’s.
