Trials Championships won by Oliver Smith during the development of the OSET bike.
2004 – Colorado State Junior B Champion – AGE 3 !
Against 7, 8 and 9 year olds on petrol bikes. He was the youngest ever champ… probably in the World, and definitely the first on an electric bike. He was on the first OSET 12.5 prototype. He got his first win in his second ever event! His first event was literally 1 week after he got the bike. This is where we proved the concept, and knew we were on to something!
2005 - Colorado State Junior B Champion – AGE 4!
On another prototype this year, again a 12.5. We showed off prototype bikes at the Duluth World Round. Raga gave Oliver his first T-shirt, and he got to ride with Fujigas. Fuji loved the 16.0!
2006 - Colorado State Junior B Champion – AGE 5!
He started the year on a pre-production 12.5 (while he was still 4), then about half way through the season switched to the 16.0. He won (I recall) 7 of the 8 rounds he entered. The one he came second was to another OSET rider (on a 16.0 prototype).
2006 Tennessee World Round. He won his class at the Junior event there, and also won the freestyle event, in front of hundreds of people! It was judged on applause, and he was a clear crowd favourite. Raga came over just to see Oliver and give him another T-shirt. He had to take off the old Raga T-shirt Oliver was wearing to put on the new one. A very cool moment. A lot of the World guys know Oliver now, which is double cool. Jeroni laughed his head off when Oliver did a stoppie and went over the bars. Oliver loved it!
2007 – We’re just getting going. We had a warm up event, where there was no youth trial. Oliver did 4 loops of 8 sections in the Novice class, against the adults. He beat a couple, and would have come second if his Mum had let him enter a section across a mud puddle. She stopped him 3 of the 4 times, then someone persuaded her to let him do it when it was at its worst. He cleaned it! He would have come second… against the adults!
I think that’s about it. He’s done other events in Wyoming, and won all of them.
